FEATI Library + S&T Expo 2009 = Synergy in February

FEATInians will enjoy the University Library more this February.

To support the sixth FEATI Science & Technology Expo, the Library has lined up events for the benefit of students, faculty and visitors alike.

To serve as an appetizer is the first ever FEATI University Book Fair.  PowerBooks, EDCA, FELTA, Rex Bookstore, CD Books, Mind Mover Publishing House., Asia Type Distribution, Abiva Publishing, F & J de Jesus Inc., and A-Z Direct Marketing will exhibit their range of printed and multimedia materials. The hardcore bookworm is expected to avail of significant discounts and favorable payment schemes.

Held concurrently with the S&T Expo 2009 at FEATI Bridgepoint, February 05-06, from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm, these events will draw people from a number of academic institutions, including high schools.

The Philippine Association of Academic and Research Libraries (PAARL), of which FEATI is a member, shall hold a seminar entitled “Assessment Techniques and Principles in Applying Standards for Academic Libraries”. For said seminar, FEATI welcomes, as guest speakers, Dr. Teresita Hernandez, Director of Centro Escolar University Library ; Ms. Fe Angela Verzoza, former Director of  De La Salle University-Manila Archives and Dr. Corazon Nera, Director of Lyceum of the Philippines University Library. Dr. Nera is a member of the Board of Librarians of the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC). With up to one hundred librarians attending, the seminar venue will be jam-packed on February 05, 2009 from 1:00 to 5:00 pm.

The next day, also starting at 1:00 pm, Mr. Romy Sebastian, of the Rizal Library of Ateneo De Manila University will showcase an efficient but affordable library management system that he recently developed. This seminar-workshop is sponsored by UP Library and Information Science Alumni Association (UPLISAA), of which Mr. Sebastian is an active member.

The FEATI Library has likewise enlisted the FEATI School of Fine Arts to titillate library patrons with an exhibit of award-winning and cutting edge artworks and theses by their students and faculty members.  The decision to stage this exhibit at the Library will surely inspire the viewers to create their own art, in part due to the breath-taking view of uptown Manila and the reflective ambience of the carpeted, air-conditioned and modern reading room. After its formal opening by SFA Head Janice L. Young on February 5, the exhibit will be open to the public until the end of the month, allowing viewers to appreciate and even purchase selected artworks.

The highly successful “The Riverview Cafe @ The Librarywill be re-created with the help of SFA students and faculty. This time, however, it will be at the Bridgepoint, side by side with the S&T Expo exhibits. A simpler program will feature acoustic performances by selected and talented FEATInians.  Proceeds from the sale of coffee and other goodies shall be used for additional enhancements of the Library.

The theme of this year's library week is “Synergy @ The Library.”  Being at the heart of the university, the library envisions itself to be a place for our young minds to nurture new ideas. (BLBD/AAC)
